Catch up with Maya Banks
To celebrate the puclication of the steamy TAKING IT ALL this month, Book Three in the Surrender trilogy, we watch up with bestselling author Maya Banks.
Which book in the Surrender trilogy did you find the most challenging to write? And the most satisfying?
Definitely Taking it All on both counts. I LOVE marriage- or relationships-in-jeopardy stories. LOVE them. It’s completely different to write about a couple a few years after they first meet, fall in love and have the Happy Ever After.
You’re a very prolific writer publishing not only your erotic romance series but also your KGI romantic suspense series. How do you manage your busy writing schedule?
I don’t manage IT, it manages ME! Haha. But honestly, I just take it one book at a time, and each and every book gets my complete and utter focus and attention. I CANNOT multi-task nor can I even THINK about two stories at a time. I’m just not wired that way unfortunately.
Have you always wanted to be a writer? What do you love most about your job?
Oh I love EVERYTHING about my job. I mean, what’s not to love?! I work my own hours, my own schedule and my own pace, at home in my pajamas! And I can work from anywhere!
Do you have the most fun creating your heroes or your heroines?
Definitely my heroines. I love tortured heroines as opposed to the tortured hero.
Do you have a favourite hero or heroine from your books or by any other author?
Hmm, I have several favorite characters from my own books. Nathan and Julie from Sweet Seduction; Cole, Garrett and P.J. from the KGI series; the Colters (all of them) from the Colters’ Legacy Series, and Reggie, Cam, Sawyer and Hutch from Be With Me. I really do love ALL my characters. They are real people, at least in my head!
Who are the authors you read for pleasure?
Nalini Singh, Kresley Cole, Christine Feehan and Kristen Ashley, just to name a few.
If you could take only three essentials with you to a desert island what would they be?
Notebooks and a pen, my laptop with a never-ending battery ;). And my Kindle, again with a never dying battery!
Who would be on your dream dinner party guest list, dead or alive?
I’m honestly drawing a blank here! I’m such an introvert that if I did have an awesome guest I’d just sit there and stare blankly at them anyway!
What are your guilty pleasures?
I refuse to feel guilt over anything I enjoy!
There’s so much interest and excitement around romance fiction right now. What do you think that romance readers are looking for in the romances they read today?
I think readers now want what readers have always wanted: an emotional, compelling story, with a warm and fuzzy happily-ever-after.
TAKING IT ALL is out in paperback on 20th November!
